Zoom gets licence to provide telecom services in India: All details here

Zoom Video Communications (ZVC) has recently obtained a telecom license that allows them to provide telephone services to enterprise customers in India. Currently, the US-based company offers voice and video conference services through its website and app.

The Unified License with Access – pan India, NLD National Long Distance, and ILD – International Long Distance has been granted to ZVC India, the parent company of Zoom Video Communications, Inc, by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Government of India.

Moreover, Cisco’s Indian subsidiary, WebEx India, was granted a telecom license last year, which enabled them to deliver national and international telecom connectivity targeted towards businesses in the country.

What does this development mean for businesses?

With these licenses, Zoom will be able to offer its cloud-based private branch exchange (PBX) service, known as ‘Zoom Phone,’ to multinational corporations (MNCs) and businesses operating in India. The PBX system serves as a local telephone exchange, facilitating conference call management for businesses.

An overview of Zoom Phone:

It offers various features like intelligent call routing, auto attendants, interactive voice response, shared line appearance, call queuing, call analytics, voicemail, recordings and transcriptions, as well as a desktop/mobile app experience that is optimized for business users.
